A friend of mine was telling me the other day a story, or rather several stories about celbreties with highly conflicted, destructive and careless lives who behave in socially irresponsible ways when they are well aware of the fact that they’re portraying an image for the masses which many will idolize and try to emulate. She said that the unfortunate thing is that these people (she spoke spcifically about musicians) are singing to us. Considering all the ways that a public figure, be they a celebrity or no, influences the opinions and behaviours  of many, shouldn’t they have a sense of social responsibility and consequence?

The reason for this is, or at least should not be for the purpose of some lofty ideal of a self indulging spirituality, but rather from an understanding that when one exists with a system with others. A system in which the actions of each affects the others, one should should of course be doing good, but more importantly be encouraging goodwill for the sake of peace, kindness and other positive virtues which benefit each individual and the system overall.

The very principle of a system of people implies interdependence which only brings about chaos when bad will is introduced. As a matter of obvious consequence. A politician is a representitive of his constituency, and I assume must have it’s best interest at heart. In what you humans call an ideal and fictional world, it should be easy for someone to judge whether or not his representative is working in his best interest. Sadly, manipulation for selfish and unessecarily greedy purposes is the modus operandi for these representatives. Somethings as simple as not prioritizing general necessities showing overt sub group bias are obviously not in the best interest of the constituency as a whole. Yet it embarrassingly hapens that majority than can re-elect an representative who has faild at his job the first chance around.Sad can often be the state of human affairs. For how long will there be the many and the few, and for how long will they not work for each other?

It’s incredibly funny to think about the kinds of lessons human beings take from their history, they choose the ones which have the least, usually most superficial relevance to their current situations. One of my favourite examples of obscure historical wisdom which has inspired me to write the article is the birth of politics. From my reading politics as we know it the modern day has descended from the ancient and oh so wise philosophers who were proposing a system which obviously did not grow up in. These educated and mostly old men studied diligently under old masters and supposedly thrived in the social system which raised them.

Anyways they conceived a system of controlling the social behavior of the masses (lets face it, that’s what government is, even if it’s a democracy) that firstly, placed them at the top, and second convincing people to willfully support them through the illusion of control as implied by choice. But enough about those dead people, it’s their legacy I’m interested in. The boys and girls of today’s progressive western societies are angrily strutting around in their colours and beneath their banners with a voracious appetite for division and polarization. That is not to say that everybody is an extremist, or that those who are centre left or centre right are not also players in the grand political farce, but no one seems to realize that the more divided a people or a species is the harder it is for everybody to get along, but also the harder it is to make any kind of decision in that guiding light of the civilized an capitalistic world, democracy.

So what’s the result? There are lots of camps to join when it comes to who being responsible for your quality of life with your state, but it can also be said that alignment of interest in an honest way can make it easier for everyone to get what they want.

I wanted to move to the subject of politician, but I’m already very exhausted from the humanity. They will take all my strength to address.

What i’d like to take from the above video is that risk taking and risk assessment are are near the top on the list of skills needed for survival on such a competitive planet. For the prey I have two questions 1. is there no other water source? (not likely) 2. Is it worth the risk ? (They’d probably say yes). The second question more appropriately rephrased is “Is the desired outcome worth my life?” The reason it should be so  phrased is that when it comes to cost benefit analysis of risk assessment, the cost should be equal to the worst possible outcome. In the case of the prey, death. 

Troubling decision making trend:

With that food for thought, my real question is this. What could be possibly be the motivation for taking such a risk as this?

Never has a creation so imitated it's inspiration

Have you ever wondered what exactly happens when you’re computer freezes (aside from it being old)?

When it happens, this is what inevitably comes to my mind:

The subject of this piece has no doubt reached a juncture at which his life, dependent on the function of his mind, can go no further, so he sits in stillness. Let us carlessly assume that said life is a series events based on decisions, and that the thinkers contemplation is a decision which cannot so simply be made. If his thoughts are about the future, his immobility is evidence of his projection’s lack of a conclusion. If his thoughts are in the past, then his there something about them with which has not come to terms or cemeted firmly enough in his memory. I think that the thinker has wondered into a Dilemma, which to most people I interact with, looks like this.

Dilemmas of the present (Those which really matter):

-To be rich, or to be happy?

-If I move out I could be independent, but I wouldn’t be financially able

-I am hungry, should I wait longer for better food, or eat slop now?

-Pay less and sign a 5 year contract, Or pay more and not be tied down?

-Should I increase Attack or Defense?

A  less stressful example, simply becuase you’ll soon discard it as unimportant to avoid making a choice.

Can you call it?

In the case of your computer, the chiken or egg program is the one you never run because it slows other things down, then freezes (and you can’t uninstall it). Never has a creation so imitated it’s inspiration.

As I see it none of the above decisions (ecxept the race, it’s a real tough call) should be that difficult to make, given that each choice has value, an uncertainty about the values of choice reflects an uncertainty of self, of what you want and of what you think. 

It is with this in mind that I must pay tribute to the untility conviction, and its role in progress.

In my continuous efforts to understand this world’s most intriguing species, I have come across a feature that almost certainly sets them apart. It would seem to be the reason for so much of humanity’s psychological turmoil, one of the greater setbacks of a so-called refined intelligence. I refer none other than shame, the bad taste in your mouths that you encounter when you look upon yourselves, and are not satisfied. What I’m interested in though, is not so much shame, but what happens as a result. 

When a person realizes that a natural, or previously undoubted state or behavior is incongruous with a norm or expectation, that state or behavior taken off the shelf and placed behind the psychological counter. What you get is an inexhaustible list of hidden sentiments, that almost never get aired in public. Consequently, you never really know who you’re dealing with; which personally disturbs me. Is the security guard who thinks there’s a weapon in your crotch a defender of the peace, or a pervert with a convenient excuse and a dream job? My next question was inevitably, how do you know what’s really going on in some body’s head when they’re looking at your Facebook page (more on Facebook later)? The answer is confession, but answers involving people are seldom so simple. Confession usually occurs under two circumstances 1) the person in question has no other choice 2) the person is granted anonymity. This of course speaks to a fundamental lack of honesty hard wired into the human psyche. Yet the veil of namelessness and facelessness is like a truth serum which compels people to unload their weighty subconscious burdens.

Long story short I’ve stumbled across another Internet whirlpool and it took me a while to surface. The shocking alternate world of what people really think and feel which and hide away is a glaring example of how social norms, graces and overall expectations obscure an honesty with self and those around you. Most importantly a forum for confession lets people know that other people are guilty of equal and worse social inappropriateness, which makes them feel better about their own shame.

Dive into an endless Sea of Information

No doubt one of the most usefull tools of human invention, the internet as i see it exists on a scale which no previous civilization could have concieved. That said, the vastness of the internet can be tedious, especially in the context of what ideally, is supposed to be a focused, purpose driven life. You don’t want to read one magazine, you want to read several magazines at once while comparing them, and exploring seperate publications and articles concerned with it’s refences and points of interest, at once.

I’m not saying the internet has failed, it is an undeniably wonderful opportunity, but is inconsistent with the very linear fashion in which most earth species think. That is not to say that people you all can’t multi-task, but your version of multi-tasking often means a reduction in the depth to which each task is done or topic explored. Not unlike the computers over which you claim superiority. In my estimation, what this means for the avergae user is that one ends up with only small amount of information from a plethora of topics which aren’t necessarily related (otherwise known as trivia). One’s browser ends up looking like this:

What was I looking for?

Too many tabs. Not so long ago I understand, there were too many windows, tomorrow there may be too many sub tabs (typical human design solution of piling things on top, or deeper sub-sub-sub grouping). Maybe, just maybe this prohibits any useful or serious information gathering for the avergae human attention span (congrats to those still reading). All things considered, it is a wonderful resource, but its interface shows an obvious bias toward the intelligent amongst you who designed it in the first place. Most of it’s users would be better off intellectually if they just read a few books instead.

Greetings once more from The Man Who Fell To Earth

I’ve been trying to settle and get to know the place, not just human settlements, but it’s hard when you’re posing as a human. This is because of  the mind boggling number of ways there are to distract oneself with human life. There’s barely anytime to study and contemplate the natural world (often referred to as wasting time).

Instead people tend to get caught up in things that rarley involve direct interaction with the world around them; biggest example  is the internet (which is too big to take on in one post, or the entire life of a blog, or a person). Point being, there is so much to get up in i fear i might lose any real sense of direction, having been swept up in a sea of information I fear of drowning is too real. Don’t get me wrong, threre’s alot to be learn’t and lots of fun to be had, it’s just a whole lot. Despite that, I try to remain calm (while being stuffed into a train).

“I’ve only been here for a short time, but already I’ve fallen in love with the place and I think I could get used to living here. A bit rough around the edges, my only complaints so far are that it’s unbearably hot, not very clean, and very violent (Beware: Earth is not for the feint of heart). That  aside, they (earthlings) have a lovely planet which tells so many stories and has so much to show; which can be a bit much to keep up with all at once.  It’s life though, is hands down its most attractive feature, and is so widespread, it begins to feel crowded very quickly. There’s always something going it seems, and I have to wonder how some of it’s lifeforms have the energy to keep up. Where I live, humans are the dominant species, and to me, they are the most fascinating of earths lot, they aren’t easy to live with, but if you keep your  wits about you might survive.”

I am the man who fell to earth, that’s what I call myself for now because the name I was born with is too much trouble to type and you guys will probably only laugh at it. I am a being from another planet, in another galaxy in another part of your universe (yes there is more than one); and I have come here to observe your earth culture in the hope of learning lessons to benefit my own world.
